Introducing The Instructor
Scott McDaniel
My name is Scott McDaniel and I am the Engineering Technology instructor at Fayette Institute of Technology. In 2006 I graduated from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Technology. After I graduated I worked for several manufacturing companies in North Carolina as a Mechanical Engineer. In 2012 I was offered a position as a Mechanical Engineer with Caterpillar Inc. (a construction machinery & equipment company) out of their Beckley, WV location. I worked for them for 3 years until they moved their location to Pennsylvania where I then decided to make the move to A.W. Chesterton Company (machinery company).
I worked for Chesterton as a Mechanical Engineer until 2017 when the Engineering instructor position at Fayette Institute of Technology became available to me. I have always had a passion for engineering and having the opportunity to share that light to passionate motivated high school students was an exciting opportunity for me. As I started my teaching career, I had the opportunity to go to Marshall University to earn my Master’s Degree in Adult and Career Education, so I took it. Granting me a better understanding of methods to help deliver my engineering curriculum more successfully. I enjoy watching a student’s face light up when a new engineering concept “clicks” for them.
Outside of teaching engineering, I have a passion for traveling and for the outdoors. My wife and I always enjoy getting outside to surf, raft, ride bikes, or just take our dogs for a hike. We currently have three amazing dogs named Meadow, Jack, and Willow. They go on all of our adventures with us.
I plan to keep growing this program to make it one of the top CTE engineering programs in the nation. I have great support at F.I.T. and the administrators are always helpful in allowing my program to flourish. The students are the ones that make this program what it is today. These students are very competitive, majority of students are competing in SkillsUSA and taking home Gold! I hope to introduce engineering and STEM to as many students as I can to give them the tools they need to become anything that they set their minds too!
